Camp Erin

A Grief Support Camp for Kids & Teens

Camp Erin of the Carolinas is a weekend, overnight camp for children and teens ages 6 through 17 who have experienced the death of someone close to them. Facilitated by professional staff from Hospice of Rutherford County and trained volunteers, Camp Erin is offered free of charge to kids and teens throughout the Carolinas. At Camp Erin, kids have an opportunity to be around other kids who have experience similar losses. Campers are comforted knowing there are other children who have experienced similar situations and understand what they are going through. They participate in typical camp activities (arts, crafts, field games, and more), as well as activities designed to help them understand and process their grief. Camp leaves each child feeling empowered and equipped with the skills and tools to cope in a healthy way.

Camp Erin of the Carolinas is held annually at South Mountain Christian Camp in Bostic, NC. Space is limited so please don't delay to register your child or teen! For dates and registration information, please Contact Cy  Miller at (828) 245-0095 or cmiller@hospiceofrutherford.org.

About The Moyer Foundation and Camp Erin

Camp Erin, created and funded by The Moyer Foundation, is the largest nationwide network of free bereavement camps for children and teens who have experienced the death of someone close to them.  The Moyer Foundation is a public non-profit organization with offices in Seattle, WA and Philadelphia, PA that was founded in 2000 by MLB, World Series-winning All-Star pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen.  Camp Erin is named in memory of Erin Metcalf, a young woman from Woodinville, WA who lost her battle with liver cancer in 2000 at the young age of 17.  Jamie and Karen Moyer had previously met Erin through Make-a-Wish and upon her untimely death, The Moyers dedicated a grief camp for children in her honor.  Today, there are nearly 40 camp locations throughout the nation.  The Moyer Foundation partners with healthcare and bereavement organizations in local communities to help fund, develop and grow Camp Erin nationwide.  For more information, visit www.moyerfoundation.org.
